WHAT: Apple® FY 09 First Quarter Results Conference Call

WHEN: Wednesday, January 21, 2009, 2:00 p.m. PST/5:00 p.m. EST

Apple CFO Peter Oppenheimer and COO Tim Cook reported positive ‘09 Q1 Results today. Apple reported high quarterly earnings and entered the 2008 holiday season with its best holiday line up. Apple COO Tim Cook spoke about the emerging Netbook market, Apple iPhone sales and much more in this news report from TechZone.

Apple reported 6% growth with a better than expected operating margin. Fiscal quarter profit was $1.61 billion, or $1.78 per share, on revenue of $10.17 billion.

How-To Install Microsoft Windows 7 on a MacBook Pro running OS X Leopard

Microsoft just released their anticipated public Beta of the new Windows 7 operating system which is said to be faster and better than XP and of course the dreaded Vista. My first impressions of Windows 7 are positive and I was particularly impressed with the easy and error-free setup process, especially on a virtual machine. At first, Windows 7 feels a lot like Vista but it’s inherently faster, smoother and feels more solid. Applications load quickly (although just as quick on my XP SP2 Virtual Machine) and so far it hasn’t crashed!

How-To: Run VMWare ESXi 3.5 on USB Flash Disk

Here’s a neat trick to boot VMWare’s latest server hypervisor technology, ESXi 3.5, from a USB Flash Disk.

You would do this to test/experiment with ESXi on your server before installing locally and committing system resources. This is also a great way to install ESXi on servers with out CD/DVD drives directly through USB or a PXE server over your LAN. (Part II will talk about PXE installation)

Note: Your BIOS must support booting from a USB device. (Most new BIOS support but older ones do not).
